So Much Money for Top Shelf Tequila but Not Enough for the Designers That Make It Look Fabulous

Celebrity perfumes are old news; these days, all the coolest celebrities are developing luxury tequila brands.  George Clooney, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kendall Jenner, and Eva Longoria are among the Hollywood stars who have gotten into the tequila business.  One celebrity-backed tequila brand has recently settled a lawsuit with an event designer who claimed that the company failed to pay her the amounts it had agreed to pay.

The event designer agreed to design and build display booths for the tequila brand at special events in Colorado and New York in the spring of 2022.  The designer put up some of the costs for the events out of her own pocket, as the company had promised to reimburse her for them.  The events came and went, and although the tequila looked fabulous in the elegant display booths, the tequila company did not pay.

In November, the event designer filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County court, alleging breach of contract, breach of implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, unjust enrichment, alter ego liability, intentional misrepresentation, and violations of the California Business and Professions Code.  She requested nearly $108,000 as reimbursement for the money that the company did not pay her, as well as other unspecified damages.  The following month, the lawsuit settled out of court for an undisclosed amount, and the court dismissed the lawsuit.
